Easy Peasy Smoked Black Garlic Hummus

Social distancing at it's finest - a smorgasbord of goodies for one!

It's been roughly a month of maintaining social distancing and if you're anything like me, you've baked and cooked yourself through this crisis. I've made 4 loaves of sourdough bread, 2 different kinds of cookies, 10 dozen pirogies, countless roasts and soups... and now a deliciously easy hummus!

While trying to limit my trips to the grocery store, I've been attempting to use what I already have at home. This can create quite a challenge, depending on what you're making and how well stocked your cupboards are. Luckily for me, my shelves are lined with jars of canning from last summer's garden, and I like to have a veggie tray made up in the fridge for easy access to snacks. As I was rummaging through my inventory I came across a long forgotten can of chickpeas and immediately thought a fresh batch of hummus would be a perfect addition to my afternoon treat!

Here is an easy recipe to make a basic hummus but without the tahini sauce, because it never seems to be something I keep in my cupboards. The black garlic is from my own farm, which you can order from the online store if you need to restock your supply. For this recipe, I used the Smoked Black Garlic to give this hummus a little extra kick. The subtle smoke flavour was perfect!

Black Garlic Hummus

  • 2 cups chickpeas

  • 2 cloves smoked black garlic

  • 4 cloves garlic

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • 4 tbsp oil

  • 3 tbsp water

  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper

  • 1/2 tsp salt

Combine all ingredients in food processor and blend until smooth. You can adjust the amount of liquid until desired consistency is achieved. I like to drizzle a bit of balsamic vinegar on top of my hummus just before serving and would highly recommend you try it! Serve with veggies or crackers and enjoy!
