Supreme Grilled Cheese

Let me start off by introducing you to Fifth Gen's Garlic Supreme! If you haven't heard about it yet, this smoked garlic paste is our newest specialty product. Imagine roasted garlic, cooked on a BBQ, surrounded by natural smoke. The rest of the process is a labour of love, the peeling all done by hand and then carefully prepared into a paste for a more shelf stable, spreadable product. I am so incredibly grateful that we found Mojo Jojo Pickles who could help us with this process! The result is an explosion of flavour and if you're anything like us, you'll be smacking your lips all day!

With a new product comes the exciting challenge of developing recipes for it. I've been playing around with different kinds meats, charcuterie boards and pastas over the past few weeks, but I keep coming back to simple comforts. Garlic + cheese + bread... need I say more? And from there came the idea for a Supreme Grilled Cheese (S.G.C).

But this couldn't be just any cheesy sandwich! If I were to use our Garlic Supreme, it would only make sense to take it all up a notch. While brainstorming which ingredients to use, I was reminded of a trip we took many years ago to visit family out on Bowen Island. It was there that we discovered a favourite little coffee shop that also offered some very original sandwiches. Whether you're in line waiting for the ferry, or needing a quick bite on your way to the beach, The Snug is a place that just can't be beat! Inspiration for the S.G.C comes from one of theirs that had cheese, apples and believe it or not - peanut butter! While I still can't be convinced to add the peanut butter (my mom swears by it now!), I do love the slight tartness that an apple adds to this sandwich. Combine that with a smoky garlic flavour and fresh homemade bread, this is lunch at it's finest!
